Day seven

Monday 24 November and the day starts with a nutritional breakfast, the first one in

the new MFS digs, with a good variety of foods available even including haggis

patties.  Following breakfast the group took a casual walk around the streets of

Edinburgh for an hour or so, before preparing for the journey to Hibernian for a light

training/tactics session.

Arriving at the Hibs training complex at Tranent around 1.00 p.m. the boys

disembarked from the coach into the crisp early afternoon Glaswegian air with a look

of anticipation on all of their faces.  David McMillan the coach of the Hibernian under

15’s took the boys for a light training/strategy session. The boys were impressed with

the depth and detail of David’s football knowledge.  The insight provided by David

into Dundee United’s game plan was to prove invaluable for the boys.

At around 3.00 p.m. the boys boarded the coach bound for Dundee for their clash with

Dundee United.  By 5.00 p.m. the bus had pulled up at the ground.  Tightly set

amongst the quaint little houses of Dundee, the busy pitch was full of training youth.

and youngsters when the MFS crew arrived.

6.15 p.m. and the ball is kicked off and the MFS assault is launched.  The boys

seemed charged with energy and a sense of mission.  Before the game, the tour’s

football analyst Paddy Smyth predicted a 3-1 outcome.  The first goal of the contest

comes at the 10 minute mark when Rodrigo Covarrubias is infringed in the box and

completes a perfect penalty.  The game continued with the same intensity with which

it began. The half-time the score is 1-0.  Second half begins with a Dundee United

goal levelling the score at 1-1.  In response MFS kicks the battle into a higher gear.

Thundering through the pitch the boys keep pushing fiercely harder.  Minutes later

Elliot Burridge hits the back of the net with a sensational rocket ball leaving the

opposition stunned.  The intensity continues,.. midfield, defence, and attack all firing

in unison.  MFS’s third and the final goal of the match comes with a Burridge header.

The opposition looks spent.  The MFS boys celebrate.

A great effort. The drive back to Edinburgh is a happy one.  Dinner and off to bed…

Another, bigger battle looms….. Hibernians await the MFS attack on Thursday at

Tranent.

One question remains….We all wonder whether our expert analyst can pick the result

again.
