The squad had a light training session at Peffermill and the focus of the session centred on the
formation that was to be deployed against Hibs. The emphasis was on how to get our attacking
midfielders to support the striker and make runs into channels behind defenders – this was to prove
successful later on in the game.
The Hibs training complex is one of the best in Scotland and all the touring party were impressed
with the facility. The boys soaked up the atmosphere, especially the history of Hibs that was
displayed along the corridors of the complex via murals of by gone era’s. The key take away for the
boys from this was the look of passion in the eyes of all players on display.
The game started poorly for MFS with Hibs coming at us at 100 miles per hour. After a frenetic 25
minutes Hibs were 1-0 up and in control. However, the boys weathered the storm and slowly got
back into the game by passing their way back in to it. An equaliser was always on the cards and this
came at the right time from a corner set play right from the training ground – half time 1-1.
Hibs started the second half with a strong wind behind them but it was MFS who took the game to
Hibs and the second half was mainly played in the Hibs half with MFS dominating in all areas. It was
frustrating to see chance after chance go begging and four clear cut chances were missed that
should have put the game beyond doubt for MFS.
A 1-1 score was well received by the Hibs bench who admitted afterwards that they were lucky to
come away with a draw.
Once again, after a slow start this MFS squad has demonstrated great character and a sense of
belief in each other as a team – this has been one of the redeeming features of this group
of players and this attribute will allow this group of players to go a long way according to
Coach Campbell.
