The MFS 2009 Tour of Scotland and England was held in Mid November/Early December 2009 and was made up of some of Melbourne’s Elite Youth footballers.

Invited participants commenced trials in June and they trained right up until departure in November.

The Head Coach and Director of Melbourne Football Stars, George Campbell, was the Tour Leader.

Football is the most popular sport in the world, and the roots of the game lie in Scotland and England. These two countries founded the game as we know it today.

MFS toured Scotland and England, two countries steeped in football tradition.

This Tour provided young players to:-

Gain an insight into the world of professional football
Experience the intensity and atmosphere of top class games
d) Understand the history and culture of the World game
e) Learn about the history of Scotland and England
Gain a life experience that as a teenage football player won’t
be experienced again and will be remembered for life
Benchmark abilities of elite players and measure the standard of where we are with youth player development

The 2009 Tour consisted of games against 2009 Scottish Premier League Champions Rangers FC, English Premier League club Manchester City FC, EPL side Blackburn Rovers FC and SPL giants Hibernian FC and Dundee United FC academies plus an exclusive game against the Scottish National Youth FA and more.

The Tour also consisted of Training Sessions conducted by the Manchester United Head Academy Coach, the Rangers FC Head Academy Coach, the Hibernian FC Head Academy Coach and the Manchester City FC Head Academy Coach.

MFS toured Ibrox Park Stadium, one of only 28 UEFA 5-star Stadia and one of only 2 in Scotland & 2 in England, the others being Hampden Park Stadium, the oldest football stadium still in use today and Old Trafford, the largest club stadium in the UK. They also toured Celtic Park Stadium, the largest club stadium in Scotland and Man City’s ground, the City of Manchester Stadium.

The team also visited the Scottish Football Museum, the world’s first National Museum of Football and enjoyed a cultural experience in Edinburgh, Scotland’s Capital City whilst also visiting Dundee, Glasgow, Manchester & Blackburn.

Participants also savoured the best of SPL & EPL games which will allow players to be exposed to the atmosphere of top class football. They will also be exposed to a 2009/10 Champions League game at Ibrox Stadium, home to the world’s most successful football club, Rangers FC. Manchester United Manager, Alex Ferguson recently commented on the most intimidating and atmospheric stadiums to visit and said that Ibrox Stadium was and still is the most. These games included going to Rangers v Kilmarnock (SPL), Rangers v Stuttgart (Champions League), Manchester City v Hull City (EPL), Man City v Arsenal (Carling Cup 1/4 Final), Man Utd v Tottenham (Carling Cup 1/4 Final).

This, plus much more has provided young players to truly ‘Experience The Dream’.Meet_the_Team.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0

“The Tour was not just about a great football experience for Chris, it was a life experience that he will treasure forever. If I was not there to see it for myself I would not have appreciated how organized and professional the Tour was and will not hesitate to send Chris again in 2011”, Richard DiBartolo, Touring Parent
